Job Title: Accounting Intern

General Summary

Support the Accounting team while learning about the organization. Perform tasks such as member service, data entry, reconciliation, auditing, and various administrative duties. LFCU will assist the candidate with applying for internship credits depending on institutional requirements. Serve the membership by being sensitive to all members’ financial needs and create an awareness of all credit union services to current, potential and new members.

Intern Job Duties

  • Assist with recording and balancing financial data, records, general ledgers, accounts, and bank transactions in various accounting software resources.
  • Assist with preparing financial, auditing, and accounting reports.
  • Gain exposure to all daily accounting job functions and engage in cross-training where appropriate.
  • Comply with all state, federal regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain members’ confidentiality.
  • Develop an understanding of credit union history, philosophy, organization, bylaws, and operational procedures.

Credit Union Job Duties

  • Actively support our sales and service culture and demonstrate these skills by communicating to members the benefits and features of all our products and services.
  • Organize, plan and prioritize work within a team atmosphere.
  • Expect and embrace change by being flexible and adaptable.
  • Meet performance objectives and expectations (i.e. sales, quality service and reliability).
  • Complete in-house training based on required classes for this position.
  • Assist in any area as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program related to accounting, finance, business, banking or related field.
  • Some coursework in accounting, finance, banking or a related field required
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply basic accounting and/or finance/business principles
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Professional interpersonal skills required

Status: Temporary, Part-time

Hours: Approximately 10 - 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday between 8 am – 5 pm. Some Saturday mornings may be available.

The ideal candidate will choose a set schedule and hours per week. LFCU may provide some schedule flexibility with time off during academic holidays or breaks. LFCU may also have additional hours available to work during breaks if the candidate is available.

Wage: $15.00/hr
