Job Description

Under general supervision, within a centralized IT support environment, performs specialized hardware, software and telecommunications repairs and support for a diverse range of user departments. Resolves hardware, software, telecommunications and networking/communication problems, conflicts, and defects.

  • Must be a high school graduate. Graduation from a technical school in Computer Sciences related field is desired. A+ Certification is desired.
  • Network security training is desired. 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area desired.
  • Requires the ability to communicate and work with the department heads and staff.
  • Must be able to organize and schedule work efficiently.
  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols, hardware components, and communications protocols. Extensive knowledge of personal computer networking software applications as well as clear understanding of computer accessing methodologies, communications techniques, and file server environments.
  • Must maintain a valid North Dakota driver’s license and maintain insurability with GSHA’s insurance carrier.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Investigates, analyzes, and resolves complex hardware problems on GSHA computer systems; performs advanced hardware repairs, maintenance, technical assistance, and support on a wide range of PC-based computers and peripherals.

· Analyzes and resolves problems on complex computer applications and systems for faculty and staff across all departments; provides a wide range of in-depth technical assistance to departmental user support staff.

· Provides advanced technical assistance, support, and troubleshooting in the resolution of system communications failures and conflicts.

· Evaluates existing computer systems hardware, and performs system upgrades, based on end user requirements; installs, integrates, customizes, configures, and tests new systems and hardware; resolves configuration conflicts and errors.

· Provides general and in-depth technical guidance, assistance, and maintenance support to end users, as requested, on diverse software applications, operating systems, and hardware systems; maintains a high standard of customer service in dealing with and responding to questions.

· Researches, analyzes, and recommends appropriate computer hardware for customized computer configurations.

· Performs routine, day-to-day hardware and software maintenance as assigned, and assists in proper upkeep and utilization of systems.

· Reviews, prioritizes, and processes problem reports; documents the progress of projects.

· Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art computer technology, equipment, and systems; participates in professional development activities as appropriate.

· Helps ensure GSHA maintains security and HIPAA standards for its network system. Runs or collected needed reports for compliance based on standard protocols or state and federal standards.

· Helps ensure proper inventory of network system hardware is properly maintained and updated.

· MAINTENANCE OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM: Coordinates phone and voicemail services for all GSHA users. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the capabilities and features of modern telephone equipment and performs phone/voicemail training.

· Ensure telecommunications services are maintained at all times.

· Provides hands-on assistance and troubleshoots all phone equipment failures and service issues for all GSHA users.

· Provides training and technical expertise on usage of phone equipment and the voice mail system.

· Schedules programming of voicemail boxes for individual users and troubleshoots voicemail issues and system failures.

· Provides phone installation and relocation services including the installation of new telephone receptacles where needed.

RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for safeguarding the privacy and security of protected health information (PHI) in any form including electronic, written or oral.

STANDARDS:

1. Responsible for safeguarding any PHI or EPHI seen, used or disclosed during this positions normal job functions as stated in the above job responsibilities based on the HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures.

2. Responsible to conduct any oral discussions of PHI with other staff or with patients and family members in a manner that limits the possibility of inadvertent disclosures.

3. Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality with any unintentional access to PHI whether electronic, written or oral.

4. Responsible for reporting suspected violations of the safeguarding of PHI or EPHI by any GSHA employee or business association.

5. Responsible to ensure the use or disclosure of PHI or EPHI that is not routinely available to this position must be coordinated with the HIPAA Privacy Officer, Security Officer or designees.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is generally done in a well lit, well ventilated, temperature controlled area. Work may be performed in small quarters and in various areas of the facility. Contact with staff and public. Must be able to handle several projects simultaneously.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires full range of body motion in handling and lifting supplies or equipment. Manual and finger dexterity along with eye-hand coordination are required. Requires lifting and carrying up to 75lbs. Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols. Requires vision and hearing to normal range in the communication with staff and with computer or network inspections. Requires working with time requirements and irregular hours. Requires the use of office equipment such as calculators, computers, telephones, and copiers. Must be able to distinguish colors letters and symbols.
