Job Description

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Initial inspection of eligible participant’s homes to determine which energy efficiency measures are required to bring the home into compliance with program guidelines and specifications.

MAJOR DUTIES- HOUSING INSPECTOR:

  1. Travel to assigned homes and conduct a thorough inspection of existing conditions according to the standards of SENCA Housing programs. Thorough inspections include, but are not limited to: visual observation structural components, gas leak testing, defining confined spaces, and documentation of conditions.

  2. Review findings of inspection with homeowners and perform client education

  3. Complete all required paperwork on homes as a part of the home inspection.

  4. Make initial telephone contact with the client before going to the home to introduce yourself as a representative of SENCA, treat the client with courtesy in all transactions, answer any questions the client may have, communicate to the client about any safety or health problems discovered.

  5. Be aware of and comply with all standards, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance with SENCA Housing programs.

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Ensure that all inspections are performed accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.

  2. Maintain adequate records in association with all aspects of the inspection processes.

  3. Work closely with the Housing Director in all aspects of the Housing Department

  4. Actively participate in efforts to meet the SENCA goals identified within the current SENCA Strategic Plan.

  5. Actively participate in setting, tracking, and attaining the three national ROMA Next Generation Goals.

  6. Demonstrate active employee engagement by using individual talents, providing a consistent level of high performance, building connections and professional networks, having high energy, broadening responsibilities, and building on those responsibilities.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned in keeping with efficiency and effectiveness of SENCA Weatherization program and SENCA agency operations.

  8. Assist in daily upkeep and general housekeeping duties of assigned office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 19 years of age.

  2. Must have a high school diploma or GED.

  3. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license for state of residence, with acceptable driving record prior to any driving responsibilities.

  4. Ability to lift weights up to fifty pounds.

  5. Prior experience working in construction, heating and cooling, or contracting preferred.

  6. Ability to stoop, crawl, stand, and bend to perform work necessary for proper inspections.

  7. Ability to work in varying conditions with exposure to any or all of the following: heat, cold, heights, dust, dirt, indoors, outdoors.

  8. Ability to communicate effectively with others.

  9. Intermediate skill level of computer use.

  10. Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and work independently of direct supervisor.

  11. Ability to handle program and client information in a confidential manner.

  12. Possess writing and mathematical skills sufficient to complete all paperwork requirements.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to travel on agency business and attend out of area training meetings and/or conferences as required.

  2. Maintain an effective working relationship with staff, program participants, general public, and other state and federal agencies.

  3. Able to work with others in a team environment, using basic teamwork principles and communication skills.

  4. Ability to empathize with program participants.

  5. Maintain oneself at all times so as not to bring discredit upon themselves or the agency.

  6. Possess the capability to learn and implement new and improved procedures and techniques in all areas of housing programs.
